Fallen Officer
Arlington police Lt. David Killinger was known throughout the community he had served since 1997.
He had received 19 commendations and numerous departmental awards for his service, including the Supervisor of the Year Award in 2007.
Lt. Killinger, 39, died March 31 at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital. His services were Tuesday at First United Methodist Church of Arlington. An official cause of death is awaiting autopsy results.
His career with the department included work in patrol and as a personnel and recruiting sergeant. His most recent assignment was as a patrol commander in the south district.
He had also been involved with community watch groups and business leaders in the retail district.
"Lt. Killinger had an impressive way of balancing the very specific needs of a growing business community with his police responsibilities," Arlington police officials said in an e-mail. "His management finesse was highly respected by officers and business owners alike."
Lt. Killinger received his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and later served with the UTA Police Department.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle Killinger; his 6-year-old son, Zachary; his parents, Fred and Nancy Killinger; and a brother, Matthew Killinger.
