Public Safety Officials Press Conference Opposing Unlicensed Carry

Austin, TX – On Tuesday, May 2 at 9:00 a.m. TPCA, FOP, TMPA, HPOU, DPA, DPSOA and others will hold a press conference in the Speaker’s Press Room regarding our opposition to House Bill 1911.

On April 18, the House Homeland Security Committee voted favorably and subsequently reported House Bill 1911, a bill authored by Representative James White (R).

This bill would allow persons to carry a weapon without a permit if they meet existing criteria to obtain a license to carry. This legislation shifts the burden of proof to law enforcement officers to verify eligibility of a person on the streets, in what likely is already a rapidly developing situation. This dangerous legislation puts the public’s safety at risk and weakens law enforcement’s ability to keep weapons off the streets.

91% of Texans support the state’s requirement to be licensed to carry a handgun.

Please plan on attending this event to hear from law enforcement and public officials on the importance of stopping this dangerous legislation from being enacted into law. Experts will be available to answer and questions relating to this topic.
