Dear Kevin,

I would just like to take a minute and recognize TMPA for fine work.
Hurricane Ike struck the Texas coast on September 12, 2008. Our agency was completely mobilized and everyone assigned to 12 hour patrol shifts. Portions of our city were hard hit and we had over 1,000 homes flooded and others completely destroyed. Our PD was also flooded and won't reopen until December. Needless to say, things were quite chaotic the first few days afterward. Our radio system was useless for two days, and cell phone communication only a little better. During this time, I was surprised to receive an incoming call. On the other end was Kevin Lawrence asking if all of our Officers and their families were OK and how we were holding up. Kevin was truly interested in our welfare, and offered to assist us in any way reasonably possible noting that he and other TMPA personnel were en route to the area. We were fortunate enough to have most of the necessities of professional life around us, and that none of our Officers lost their homes. I suggested that perhaps some of the agencies in Galveston County might be more in need of help, but Kevin was already on the ball and in the process of working with them to get them what they needed. While on the way to Galveston County, TMPA stopped by the fire station where we were all staying and provided a hot meal and some other overlooked needed items. Regrettably, my duty assignment at the time precluded me from attending, so I do not know who else to name in my thanks. I'll also note that the continued follow up by TMPA has been first class as well. Sammy Jacobs has been by several times since the storm to make sure we have everything we need, and has even provided us generic "POLICE" t-shirts for our Officers while their uniforms were laundered.

I know that some Officers join TMPA just for the legal protection plan, and rightfully so considering TMPA's excellent service record to its members over the years. I can testify that TMPA membership is much more than just a legal plan or an annual conference. TMPA truly cares about its members and is there to support them in time of need, whatever that need may be. It has been most refreshing to know that TMPA has our back, and they have stepped up for us - the support has been more than we ever could have expected. God Bless you all, and keep up the fine work.

Best regards,
