In Memoriam. . .
In January of last year TMPA was contacted by
the Make a Wish Foundation to assist with a young
man’s dream. Seven year old Jaceb Fedro
had been diagnosed with a rare brain tumor and
wanted one thing in the world. Jaceb wanted to
be a police officer. Jaceb wanted to be a police
officer even though his father was a Lieutenant
with the Austin Fire department. Dad tried on
many occasions to convince Jaceb that he should
follow in dad’s footsteps and be a firefighter.
However, Jaceb would have no part of it and told
his dad that “I want to be a police officer”.
Jaceb’s wish came true on February 6, 2003
when Lakeway Chief of Police Rick Delong swore
Jaceb in as a police officer for the city of Lakeway.
Jaceb was issued a uniform and badge and was assigned
to Officer Ricky Gavitt for his first phase of
training. His first day of training included directing
traffic, running radar in a school zone and patrolling
the streets of Lakeway. Jaceb relished the opportunities
to participate in police activities with his new
partner and other officers at the Lakeway Police
Department.

Then on July18, 2003 Jaceb was voted in as an honorary
member of the Texas Municipal Police Association. At
the same time, Jaceb was bestowed the honor of being
named Honorary President of the Texas Municipal Police
Association at the TMPA annual banquet.

Jaceb continued his courageous battle with cancer until
July 29, 2003 when he died peacefully surrounded by his
parents and sister, Amber. Jaceb will forever be remembered
by TMPA as the little guy who touched many hearts during
his short stay with us. Jaceb defined the meaning of
courage and dignity. We will miss Jaceb, however, there
is no doubt that Jaceb is now an angel overlooking each
and every police officer. |
